Masterclass in Inclusive Education

Education Departments throughout Australia and New Zealand are committed to building inclusive education systems. New policies and strategic priorities advocate that all students, regardless of disability, ethnicity, language background, gender, sexual orientation, or faith should be able to access and fully participate in learning, and that schools should facilitate such inclusion through making reasonable adjustments to the physical environment, curriculum, assessment, and teaching strategies to cater to the needs of the individual student.

Furthermore, the expectation is that student agency and self-determination will be supported; that parents and caregivers will be valued as partners in their student's learning; and that schools will nurture a culture in which every student feels a sense of belonging, respect and safety.

For school leaders, classroom teachers, and learning support staff, the challenges to meet these mandated expectations are enormous. With supportive professional development, schools will be better positioned to successfully apply for much-needed RAR government funding required to optimise outcomes for their students with disability.

This masterclass aims to strengthen the professional knowledge and practice of educators committed to building a safe and engaging learning environment for all students, inclusive of those with disability.

It is delivered as three live virtual sessions themed Clarity, Competence, and Connection over three consecutive weeks. Each week, participants have a choice between two timeslots.

As a participant, you will exit with a confident understanding of the core concepts and language of Inclusive Education. You will gain a clearer picture of relevant Government legislation, and recent changes in Government policies for educators of students with disability. As well, you will expand your knowledge of your compliance responsibilities to be able to call yourself a proficient inclusive classroom practitioner. You will also upskill in reading and interpreting Learning Plans, and making reasonable adjustments to level the playing field for your students with disability, especially those with ADHD, Autism, or Anxiety. Furthermore, you will more fully understand the importance of developing positive collaborative partnerships, and will learn how to more effectively manage the different communication styles and expectations of the parents/caregivers of your students with disability.
